Jeannette Rankin Award



The League of Women Voters Antelope Valley seeks to celebrate ordinary citizens who exemplify the pioneering qualities of Jeannette Rankin, the first woman elected to Congress in 1916, and have demonstrated a courageous and pioneering spirit in promoting democracy. 

ligibility Requirements:

1.           Any adult, age 18 or older

2.           A U.S. Citizen

3.           Current resident of the Antelope Valley

Selection Factors

1.           Evidence of extraordinary courage in meeting the needs of communities in the Antelope Valley.

2.           Pioneering spirit in the way problems are addressed and solved.

3.           A Visionary in ways to improve the community

4.           Evidence of having mobilized others to work with them to effect a change that has benefited the broader community.

5.           Evidence of overcoming obstacles in their effort to make a difference in our communities.

Deadline:   July 23


We encourage people to nominate either themselves or others for this yearly award.  Selection will be made in July and the award presented in early August.
